Chief Pomham of the Narragansett/Showamet was killed 1676 near Dedham Ma. his 9 yr.old son was captured and taken to Plymouth but his fate is questionable. If he survived and the name came forward there was a family(Ephram and Mercy) in the early 1700's in Rehoboth near Barrington R.I. who had children b.1720's30's in Rehoboth records. The surname of mostly females except Ephram b.1793 d 1848 continues in eastern Ct. early 1800's in Census records. Also Joseph Pomham has Rev. war record. There were three Ephrams so it must be a continuing family connection. Tom Pumham(indian) was cited for getting Martha Sabin pregnant in 1721 and the child was put out into a white family in 1724 in Rehoboth. A Mary Pomham married Wally or Wade Cheese in Barr. and Rehoboth records in 1743. Has anyone researched this surname?
