Seeking to make contact with relatives of our MacDonald/McDonald family who settled in River Philip/Springhill area of Cumberland County, Nova Scotia. We have traced this family back to an Alexander MACDONALD (born somewhere in Scotland abt 1806). He had a son, Archibald, and possibly a daughter, Isabella. Archibald had a son, Angus (along with other children). Angus had a son, Robert Stanley MacDonald (b. abt 1897 in River Philip area) - my husband's great grandfather. Robert married an Annie Steels or Johnson in Kent, England in 1917 (while he was stationed in the armed forces). When Robert & Annie came back to Canada, they first settled in the River Philip area, then moved to Manitoba. Their children were Robert, Jr (deceased); Frederick William (my husband's grandfather - deceased May, 2002) and 2 daughters.

Family lore leads us to believe that Angus MacDonald was involved in the lumber industry in the River Philip area. We believe the family was of the Presbyterian faith.

Over ten years have passed, and we still haven't been able to verify the info on Alexander MacDonald and where he was born in Scotland. Very anxious to solve this mystery. We have pretty-well been able to reconstruct the family tree from Archibald forwards (with a lot of help from family & fellow researchers).

Other surnames associated with this family - DYKENS, COVE, RUSHTON, COLBURNE (and many others).
