Kim,
My apologies, I am at the very early stages of my research and while have identified a paternal line back to 1700, the first substantial information I have is in regard to my great, great grandfathers family, Robert Kennedy b1808. At this stage I have been informed that East Tryone Kennedy's emigrated to the States, but have not been able to id them yet. So at the minute I am simply attempting to gain as much information as possible on East Tyrone Kennedy's.
Having read some of your messages on the origin of the name, I am sure you are aware that the overwhelming number, if not all Ulster Kennedy's, including myself, are of Scottish extraction, who arrived in Ireland during the Plantation and subsequently prompted the whole Scotch-Irish phenomenon! While the Scottish Kennedy's, and the majority of Scottish people, originate from the island that is now known as Ireland, we are incredibly proud of our Scots ancestry, separate from and unrelated to the whole Irish gaelic thing. You will know that Ireland was formerly known as Scotia while Scotland was known as Caledonia and was inhabited by the Picts but it was because so many moved from Scotia to Caledonia that Scotland obtained is name.
