Dr. Donna Jeanne Browder Evans, passed away, surrounded by her family and friends, on March 27, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Donna was born in Columbus, Ohio, on January 26, 1933 to the late Clarke M. and Margaret E. Browder.
Her brother Donald was born 13 months later.
Donna's mother nicknamed her "Boots" and the nickname stayed with her for life.
She attended Fair Avenue Elementary, Champion Junior High and East High schools in Columbus.
After high school, she attended The Ohio State University where she earned her B.S. in Elementary Education, her M.A. in Counselor Education and her Ph.D. in Counselor Education/Human Growth & Development.
In 1953, she married Robert D. Brown and they had one daughter, Jocelyn Michelle, who was born in 1957.
Donna and Bobby later divorced.
Dr. Evans had a fulfilling career in education. She served as Dean at The Ohio State University College of Education, Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., The University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla., and Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
She also served as the Dept. of Education Chair at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY and Full Professor and Acting Dean at the University of Maine, Orono.
Upon her retirement in 2005, from OSU, Donna was appointed John Glenn Scholar for Urban Education Policy at the OSU Institute for Public Service and Public Policy.
In Columbus, Dr. Evans served on the boards of the Crittenden Community School and the Columbus Public Schools Adult and Community Advisory board.
She was a member of the Columbus Rotary and served on Mayor Coleman's Education Advisory Committee.
She was equally active in the communities of Jacksonville, Florida and Norfolk, Virginia when she resided in those cities. At the time of her death,
Dr. Evans was on the Board of Trustees at Central State University.
She was elected, by Ohio Governor Robert A. Taft II, to the Board for a nine-year term that began in December, 2005. Most recently, she served as Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee.
Dr. Evans was also a member of the search committee that selected Dr. Cynthia Jackson-Hammond as the first woman President in Central State University's 126-year history. Throughout her life, Donna was active in many civic and social organizations including The Twigs; Jack and Jill of America, Columbus, Ohio Chapter; The Links Inc., Twin Rivers Chapter; The Girl Friends; Smartset; Carrousels; The Circle-Lets; Moles and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
She remained a life-long member of St. Phillips Episcopal Church.
Her daughter, Jocelyn M. Smith; her son-in-law, Dr. Michael D. Smith; her grandchildren, Danielle and Alex, all of Encino, California and her beloved step-daughter, Frankie Coleman of Columbus, Ohio; her brother and sister-in-law, Drs. Donald and Jean Browder, their children, Robin Browder and Clarke Browder II; and great- nieces and nephews, Clarke III, Lauren, Daniel and Zoe, all of Washington, D.C. survive Donna.

Service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 166 Woodland Ave., Columbus, Ohio.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until time of service beginning at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow immediately at Green Lawn Cemetery. The repast will be held at St. Philips Episcopal Church following the interment.
