AUSTINTOWN – Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the Bethel Church of God in Christ, 3147 Glenwood Ave. in Youngstown, Ohio for Mrs. Barbara Jean Powell, 73, who departed this life Friday, May 4, 2012, at Austinwoods Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born July 24, 1938, in Newark, New Jersey, a daughter of William and Margaret Wycoff Bohannan.

She attended Newark Public Schools and Rutgers University.

In 1956, she met her first husband, Robert Ellington, and to this union, six loving children were born.
In 1974, she relocated to Youngstown and was employed by General Motors Lordstown Fabricating Plant, retiring in 1992 after 16 years of service.

While working at GM, she met and married her second husband, James Powell, who passed away Oct. 17, 1996.

Barbara was a member of the Bethel Church of God in Christ. She also belonged to a Bonanza Club, in which she served as treasurer, and the Traveling Cavaliers Club.
Her greatest joy of all, was spending time with her grandchildren, especially during the summer months.

She leaves to cherish her beloved memory, five children, Michelle Ellington, Shawn Hough and Patrick Ellington, all of Austintown, Ohio and Donna Ezeokoli and Robert Ellington, both of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren, including Zack and Marlon James, whom she reared; 13 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Jowanda Ellington; three brothers, Edward (LaVerne) Bohannan of East Orange, N.J., Eugene Bohannan of Austintown, and Roderick Bohannon of Indianapolis; two sisters, Jackie Patrick and Sharon Massey, both of Newark; an aunt, Dorothy McCray of Newark; a special friend, Edward Bernard; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin James; a brother, Abdul Gafur-Yasin; and a grandson, Zaccair Michael James.

Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.
