JACKSON, Mr. Vate Eugene Jr., PhD age 87 passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011.
He was born in Longview, Texas on November 10, 1923 and resided in the Dayton, Ohio area since 1951.
He retired as a Mathematician from Wright Patterson AFB. Mr. Jackson earned a Bachelor of Science degree and received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities degree from Wilberforce University.
He was an active member and co-founder of the Dayton Chapter and National Alumni Association of Wilberforce University.
He also served on the Wilberforce University Alumni Association National Board of Directors.
He served on many community service programs such as Big Brothers & Sisters, The American Heart Association, Old Time Newsies, Miami Valley Head Start, Senior Citizens Board of Directors,and United Cerebral Palsy. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vate Sr., and Iona Jackson; a wife, Edna; a brother, Alton; two sisters, Charlene Fagan and Evelyn Stewart; and a niece, Jean Hoyt.

Survivors include a sister, Florence of Longview, TX., and a devoted soul mate Beatrice R. Etienne of Dayton; grandchildren Armand Etienne, Charmaine and Donovan Xayasith of Dayton; Kelli and Brandon McGill of Stone Mountain, GA; and Jamier Boatman of Decatur, GA; a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011 2:00 PM, at the LORITTS-NEILSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3924 W. Third St., Dayton, Ohio
The family request that donations be made to Wilberforce University for the Vate Jr., and Edna Jackson Scholarship Fund, Code 2411, PO Box 1001 Wilberforce, OH 45384 or to Hospice of Dayton in lieu of flowers.
Final disposition cremation.
