Thank you Crabtree. I appreciate the assistance. I know I have some things to clean up especially the sources for each individual. I sometimes get ahead of myself when Ancestry and feel I may loose a hind if I don’t add it to an individual right away. So I will go back and clean some stuff up.
As for Hillary Baker, she was my great grandmother and it is said she was married to a Ran Neal who also lived in Sumter County Georgia however I have not been able to find any certificate or proof of their marriage.
I believe he may have died before 1920 in Sumter County Georgia.
I say this because my great grandmother Hilliard was a Dark Colored woman on her death certificate, however my grandmother Francis Neal was born a fair complected woman and nearly could pass for being white. After researching my DNA , I believe that my great grandmother Hilliard was a private cook in 1920 for a gentleman by the name of Alfred Bell. He was a well to do White male who ironically I share DNA with his grandchildren today. I was able to put this information together by contacting Sumter county and received the old street maps of 1920 for Americus, Ga in Sumter county. It puts both My great grandmother Hillard Baker and Alfred Bell being about 4 blocks from one another and as I said I share dna strong enough to place his grandchildren as a 3rd cousin or so to me. As for my father he is a 2nd cousin to those same cousins of the Bell family.
Hopefully I explained that correctly and if I didn’t please let me know. My question is would there be any records to show that a servant worked in a home for a family? I am not sure if there would be a tax record of some sort or maybe something I may be overlooking.
Also, do you see anything in a Ran Neal? He is also in my family tree along with Alfred Bell being with Hilliard Baker.
It seems that GGrandmother Hilliard has a child named Hillard Baker Jr. born in 1896 but I can’t find anything more on home.
Again I appreciate all the assistance and I am very grateful to you all.
Also please keep in mind that my last name Baker comes from my mothers side of the family. Ironically we have Baker’s surname on both my mom and dads said and no they are not related lol.
The Hillard Baker is on my fathers side.
