YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, for Mrs. Ada Bell Elder, 98, who went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012.

Mrs. Elder, lovingly known, as “Big Ma,” was born June 6, 1914, in Tenniville, Georgia, a daughter of Iverson and Molly Sallett Darrisaw.

She moved to Youngstown, Ohio in 1956, where she met and married Henry Elder on Aug. 30, 1961.
When the new complex at Arlington Heights became available, she became a resident until June 2011, when it became necessary for her to reside at Campus Nursing Home.

A devoted homemaker, Ada, enjoyed cooking, fishing, soap operas, old Andy Griffith shows, Western movies and being with her beloved family.

She was a member of St. Peters Missionary Baptist Church for many years and served on the Mother’s Board, Willing Workers, Culinary ministries.

Ada leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Bobby Lee (Frances) Harden Sr. of Youngstown, OH; a brother, Eddie Darrisaw of Detroit, Michigan; 11 grandchildren, Bobby J. Harden, Shirley (Donald) Queener, Catherine Goins, and Janice E. Morales, all of Youngstown, Joann Mark of LaPorte, Texas, and Bobby Lee (Pia) Harden of New York, N.Y., Hazel Brandon, Charles Green Jr., Lillie Samuels, Abraham Samuels Jr. and Geraldine Calloway, all of Reno, Nevada; 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a cousin, who was like a sister to her, Willie Bell Wright of Cleveland, Ohio; her dear best friend, Jessie Harvey of Youngstown; and a host of other family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, who passed away in 1976; a daughter, Geraldine Samuels; a son, Willie Lee Sims; two sisters; and three brothers.

Friends may call Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
