Hi, My male cousin took the test for me. He is I-M53. Our line of Hewitt was in Rowan County, NC by 1755 when John Hewitt was born. John migrated to Spartanburg County, SC where he had six sons: James, John, Alexander, William, Richard and Robert.
My cousin is a descendant of Alexander and one of his matches is to a descendant of John. This match claims descent from Richard (b. 1604 England). But the story of Richard being killed in the Jamestowne massacre is wrong. Richard Hewitt did not arrive in Jamestowne until 1633 when he was listed as a resident of Jamestowne. His cousin Francis Epes received a land grant in 1635 for transporting his family and about 30 others including Richard Huett.
I hope this will help anyone who is from this group.
