Thank you for a very informative thread! :)

I just ordered my DNA kit this past weekend. After speaking to an associate at Ancestry.com about their process and reading through the FAQ page on DNA testing, it became obvious I was going to need to create a new tree to attach the test results to since I have seperate trees for each surname I'm researching. So last week, before I even found the DNA message board, I started making a new tree starting with myself and going back my direct lines. I've been including years and places of birth and death (as close as I know on those where I'm not certain).

After reading some concerns presented on this thread I've changed the name of this tree to "Tree for DNA Matching - Unsourced direct line only" and have made it public. This tree currently has 84 people in it. I know some have said they won't even look at trees that are unsourced (and I agree) or trees with only a few people in them. I hope the name change on the tree will coax people with matches to at least take a look.

I'm still pulling date and place information out of my other trees to get my "bare bones" tree ready when the test results are ready to link up, even though that's probably two months away yet. Thanks for a good thread confirming a public bare bones tree for my DNA results was a good idea. :)
