RE: "You cannot imagine how frustrating it is, for public tree owners, to see a potential match, and yet NOTHING is visible as to what may match when the match is a private tree. We see NOTHING. No surnames, no hint of a match (even if there is a HINT!). It's rather unfair. That's all, just plainly and unequivocably unfair."
YES!
Those of you with you private trees attached to your DNA results are information freeloaders. Even though it's permitted by Ancestry's rules for you to take advantage of the rest of of us, it is not RIGHT for you to do so. I know, I know: Your information is based on better research than the rest of ours, you've had bad experiences with people stealing your grandmother and her photos, and/or there's an adoption in your tree. It's still freeloading. If you don't share your information, you shouldn't have automatic access to ours. You should have to ask us to see our trees, as we have to ask you to see your trees.
RE: "Then there are those who want to know what surname we match on". Yes. I have had several of those. I feel like I'm dealing with people who think they are royalty.
