That is not the answer that I received although I don't doubt you. I was simply told that the problem would be forwarded on. There was no indication that immediate action would be taken, but that it would be looked into. I am going to recheck this every few days.

As to whether the living person needs to make the request, I am appalled.

This would certainly be a departure from how ancestry has handled this in the past. The person for whom I called is -not- an ancestry member. Why should that person have to go to the work and anxiety to have something removed from an organization he is not a part of. What would be the steps for that, join ancestry to locate the problem tree, to then report this. It takes people days or weeks to learn how to locate items in other ancestry trees and why should he have to do any of that.

To be publicly listed as deceased is horrible enough!

Mistakes happen and everyone understands that. However, it is quite a different thing if something is intentional. I hope and I cannot imagine that ancestry would behave in such a way. I will let people know when this problem is resolved as I am sure it will be.

I hope you will follow up. Perhaps the person who responded to you was new or something.
