I have traced my French-Canadian ancestors (both mother's and father's) back to France in the early 1500s. I have an ID card from the Canadian govt. that states I am First Nations. My DNA shows 54% Central Europe; 17% Southern Europe; 16% Scandinavian; 7% Finnish/Volga-Ural; 6% Uncertain. In Margaret Conrad's "History of the Canadian Peoples," she states that there were Viking settlements in North America in the 6th and 8th centuries. They had relations with the Wabanaki (First Nations of Canada.) Some nomadic tribes came over land bridges; some may have sailed across the ocean. The head of the Asian Division at the Library of Congress told me that according to Chinese history, explorers came across the Pacific from China in the 5th century and lived with the Hopi Indians. I attribute that 13% (F/VU and Uncertain) to my First Nations heritage I have proven and traced back 12 generations.
