Becky - a lot depends on what you want, because for some things this site is great.

For instance, lots of folks who migrated west from the 1840s to 1900 or so went through (and family members often ended up staying in) Missouri. You can't imagine how thrilled I was to find the original image on one set of gg grandparents' marriage, in Buchanan County, MO, in 1840. I had not even known they were there (were in IL by the next census) and I still don't know why the bride was there - no record of any of her family there, before or after that. Also, images of ships' passenger manifests have been a big help, as have images of passport applications (which, in the 1920-1935 or so period, often include photos).

What types of records are you seeking, for what time period, and in what geographic area? People often have great suggestions on these boards.

And I would not take the comments above as jabbing - folks were just trying to figure out what the issue was, and how best to help. (For instance, trying to figure out if you were talking about DNA result matches, which have issues very different from historical research.) The comments were mostly around some of the idiosyncratic behaviors of the two search engines (known as Old Search and New Search), and the way the site remembers how you framed your last search. You might want to try some of the suggested approaches before writing it off completely.
