"I haven't seen this new ALTERNATE FORM in other db's, however I don't use every db in Ancestry's collection."

Hopefully this exchange will preclude any expansion of "alternate category" submission options to any other databases pending ACOM's reconsideration of this entire "alternate data" enchilada.

While other databases have not (to my knowledge) been subjected to the alternate data submission siren call apparently imposed upon the Drouin Collection, it is a fact that at least one entry in the 1910 US Federal Census index has made an "alternate data" submission the default "name" entry. The breadth of this spurious and radical change in the attachment/citation building process to other indexes is unknown at this point...and worrisome.

BTW, my "hand-wringing" reference was solely directed at senseless "transcription error" angst, a distinction some are apparently failing to grasp. As to the "alternate data" issue, I can and will "hand-wring" with the best of 'em.
