You raise an interesting point about people from France and Britain being similar genetically. Do you think that would include Germany, as well? My Ancestry autosomal DNA results indicated 52% British Isles, reflecting my father's side. (The other half, from my mom's Italian side, was 18% Southern Europe, and a surprise to me yet plausible, 15% Middle Eastern and 15% "Russian"/Persian/Turkish, the latter which seems to be a misnomer for "Turkish/Persian/Caucasus").

Although three of my father's grandparents were Irish or likely Irish descent, the part about the 52% British Isles that surprised me was that there seemed to be no representation of my father's grandmother, who was born in (and family was from) Germany. I thought for sure there should have been a Central European source. If my test was accurate, I suppose it's possible the family may have originated from the British Isles long ago before settling in Germany? In any event, one of the suggested potential relatives is my actual third cousin, once removed, so the test seems at least partially valid.
