No I didn't get a copy of the actual claim. What I got was a copy of a document from Jackson Michigan Thomas Field's home in 1859) wherein he submitted a claim to the state of NY for expenses he incurred in 1812. It shows his cost for his musket, bayonette, uniform coat, badge and plume etc. and for the cost of transportation to and from Livingston NY, the site of a staging ground for one of the early battles of the war. It shows he volunteered the next day after the War was declaired. Contact the NY State Archives, you might be surprised what you find.
