He's a Royal Artillery officer. He has the two pips of a lieutenant on his shoulders and what looks like the flaming grenade of the ryal artillery on his collar. One thing is his cap badge doesn't look like a Royal Artillery badge. His lower right sleeve has 4 overseas chevrons, one for each year of overseas service. From the rank pips on the shoulders and the ribbons, I would say this photo dates from after 1920. Prior to WW1 the British officers wore rank on thier cuffs, the practice gradually disappeared during the war and was abolished in 1920. Have you tried the Indua Office at the British Library to see if they have any records for this person? You might also want to check the London Gazette for awards and decorations.
