Glad to have been of some assistance. The entry in the list contains only his name, rank (private) and his unit, which you already know is Füsilier Regiment Nr. 34. This was a normal infantry regiment.

As for the criteria for awarding the iron cross 2nd class, it required a recommendation from a soldier's unit. It was not given to everyone who fought in the war, and was considered prestigious. In WWI, the number awarded was several million, and it's level of prestige dropped precipitously. So, he would have been very proud to have had the iron cross, as would his family.
