It's great that Dennis could supply information on where Capt. Erskine was based.

Since all Militia were organized, recruited and paid by the County government, the most important identifier of a Militia unit is the name of the County. In this case: Bergen Co., NJ Militia. The name of the Captain is not the key identifier. Captains can die, resign or be promoted and replaced, or the militiaman may transfer to a different Company.

All free white males were supposed to be available for militia duty, including turning out for regular musters and drills. Many, if not most, militiamen never saw active duty, so a name on a militia muster roll does not necessarily reflect active-duty service.

By the way, "Anthony" is one English rendition of the Dutch name 'Theunis'. Other spellings and renditions include Dennis, Thonges, Tunis.

Good hunting,
