Iam inquiring for a specific proof of service for Shadrach Hapgood, early resident of Harvard Mass. I submitted paperwork to DAR to approve my lineage to this documented Revolutionary War patriot only to find, that the DAR genealogists feel that the service (listed several decades ago) for Shadrach Hapgood 1704-1782 really belongs to his son, Shadrach Hapgood Jr. and they are asking that I find something else to re-open this the line of service.
I am trying to find some proof of his service between 1775-1785. I have looked in a History of Harvard book and it lists him as a Selectman for several years, but the years just prior to the Revolutionary War Dates.Surely he did something or made a donation after that type of involvement in the town.
I am hoping that someone might be able to help me find some “service to the town or donation to the cause between the dates 1775 and 1785”. Due to his age, this seems to be the logical type of proof that may exist.
Shadrach is considered a Patriot; now his line as been closed and I am determined to find something to re-open it! The DAR Research person seems to think I should be able to find something...
Thanks for any help!
