What I know about my father's WW1 service in the 153 Depot Brigade:

I wish everyone who has any info at all about people who served in this brigade would post whatever they know to share it with us all and we'll perhaps be able to put this history together some.

My Father was an Italian immigrant living in Pennsylvania when he answered a call in 1918 to serve his new country by fighting for the USA in WW1. In exchange for his service, the USA offered citizenship; a valued status for a young immigrant with a vision to raise a family in his new and free world!

My Father enlisted and served in the 153 Depot Brigade from July 1918 thru his discharge at Camp Dix in March 1919. While his unit served in Verdun, France, his unit was Mustard gassed and he was in an Army surgical hospital on Armistice Day (11 November 1918). He was apparently awarded a Purple Heart as his gravestone has at the bottom line the engraved letters "PH" (at the Long Island National Cemetery Pinelawn in Farmingdale, Long Island, New York).

According to his discharge papers dated 15 March 1919 at Camp Dix, NJ, he served as a Private in the 4th Co. 1st Battalion, 153 Depot Brigade and was last assigned to Co. B, 315 Infantry and Casual Co. 184.
