That's all you need - he comes up in the 1890 census for me.
In general, it's really hard to find people in a database, even if they are there. Spelling of names was not standardized in earlier times; plus naming customs in Denmark mean a person could have several various "surnames." Plus a person might be living elsewhere. Also there are limitations in the database, such as census years that are not transcribed, etc.
Use % as a wildcard to substitute for letters that can vary (Pedersen/Petersen).
Are you able to register on Slaegt og Data DIS-Danmark? You will find great help there. If someone else finds a record for you, then it will be easier for you to find it yourself in the database, as practice in using the database.
