Hello Mike-I have a lot of genealogical data regarding the Kilquane Murphy family. The Kilquane Murphy's are an enormous family. I have some data on 20 Daniel's born in Kilquane. Three of these men married women named Ellen and two of these couples had son's named Humphrey. Daniel and Ellen O'Connor had a son named Humprey born in 1856. Daniel and Ellen Gallavan had a son named Humphrey born in 1880. A third Daniel married a woman named Ellen Crowley, but I don't have any children listed for this couple. Do you know your great-grandmother Ellen's maiden name ?

The City of Worcester was a common destination for the Murphys as was Charlestown, Springfield, Waltham and Lynn. In reality, they have settled all over the US and beyond.

My great-grandfather was Edward "Ned" Murphy who settled here in Charlestown and worked in the Navy Yard as a blacksmith. Murphy's Forge in Kilquane was one of the oldest forges in Ireland. The Murphy family members who entered the blacksmith trade became known as the "Gow Murphy's". The term "Gow" is the English translation for the Gaelic word "Gabha". So, you would be descended from the "Gow Murphy's".

Is any of this familar to you ?
