I saw your post, and I might have something to help. I can't help with the records from the New Orleans orphanage, but I have researched other orphanages. During that time period, the child may have had one or both parents still alive, and the child might not have been a true orphan. In Colorado, many of the parents simply didn't have the means to care for a given child or a set of children. The child may have been placed in an orphanage for a period of time and then reclaimed by the parent or parents when they had better established themselves financially or emotionally. I saw this as the case when a husband died and the wife had to find a way to earn an income. She simply couldn't support herself and her children. Other children actually came in from other countries, such as Cuba, were cared for in the orphanage for several years, and then when the parents arrived, the children were reclaimed, and the family was reunited. Not all who were in orphanages were true orphans in the sense of the word. Good luck with your search.
