Just to correct what I said about legibility - I was referring to the very early records in Dingle, later records quite good. As a further note, baptisms/marriages performed in churches other than the parish church, would not be entered in the Parish Register immediately, leaving lots of space for errors and indeed neglect.
Familiarity with the records is a great help, you learn a lot more by seeing the records as written and in context with the rest of the entries.
Extra information not on line - consanguinity and in later baptismal enteries, information on marriage.
Locally in Ballyferriter, the relatively recent hand written marriage records, grouped by name (which reduces wear and tear on the original register), records snippets of information - what the recorder knew or what he picked up from reliable sources, townland, nickname.
