Legion Pays Tribute to Veteran Offerman, Victim of Accident. A military funeral under the direction of the American legion will be given Friday morning for Raymond J. Offerman, age 22, son of Dr. F.X. Offerman, whose body arrived from Fort Dupont, Del. Offerman was killed when caught in a cave-in of a canal bank. The funeral will be held at the O'Connor chapel at 8:30 on Friday and at St. Ann's cathedral at 9 o'clock, where mass will be said by the Very Rev. M.T. O'Brien, V.G. Interment will be made in Calvary cemetery. Offerman enlisted three years ago and served in the United States and with the army of occupation until three weeks ago, and was standing by for his discharge when killed in the accident. A letter, telling of the accident was received Wednesday by the family from Major R.G. Powell, commanding officer of Fort Dupont. The letter was addressed to Miss Vera Offerman and reads: "With deep regret I telegraphed you today of the death of your brother, Raymond J. Offerman. It occured, very suddenly and was occasioned by being caught by a cave-in on the canal bank. Your brother was held in the highest esteem by his comrades and his record was that of a most excellent, faithful soldier. Accept my sincerest sympathy in your loss." Offerman is survived by his father, Dr. Offerman; two sisters, Miss Vera Offerman of Great Falls and Mrs. William Mahon of Saskatchewan, Can. (Great Falls Tribune, Thurs. Sept. 7, 1922, p. 5)
