The following is an excerpt from the 'Prairie Gleaner' titled 'First Settlers - St. Clair County'.
"A petition for the organization of St. Clair County to become an independent municipality in 1840 was signed by: John Barnett, S.C. Bruce, R.P. Cocke, Dr. P.M. Cox, Thomas Cruthaid, J.A. Culbertson, G.B. Culvertson, J.C. Greenwell, Columbus Halin (Hahn?) H.N. Hester, John Howard, James Hoover, William B. LAWLER, Z. Lilley, James Renfro, J. Ridgeway, W.H. Scobey, Albert Sheldon, George Short, Hiram Short, H.Y. Small, R.H. Sproul, Ervin Thomas, John R. White.
At that time, there were 350 heads of families listed as follows:"
Among those listed are: Edward DELOZIER, Wm. B. LAWLER, John J. WYATT, and Sam WYATT. (These are my line)
Does anyone have any information on these individuals?
(St. Clair Co was previouly part of Rives Co.)
On the 1840 Federal Census OF RIVES COUNTY MISSOURI now Henry and St. Clair Counties, the following entries appear:
WYATT, Samuel - Wableau pg 374-30: 1M(15-19), 1M(40-49), 1F(5-9), 1F(20-29), 1(Agri)
WYATT, Saunders - Wableau pg 375-15: 1M(5-9), 1M(10-14), 1M(30-39), 1F(0-4), 1F(20-29), 1(Agri)
Samuel was married to Mary DELOZIER (b.1822, dau of Edward DeLozier & Frances Dyer)
Saunders was 1st married to Rachael DeLozier (dau of Edward & Frances) and 2nd to Eliza Ralston (married abt 1838)
However, I can't seem to locate them on the 1850 Fed Census for MO in either Henry or St. Clair.
Does anyone have any information on Samuel and Saunders WYATT?
