My research into my family has run into a stone wall. I have traced my family back to Robert Nelson living in the Greenville area of South Carolina in the late 1700s and early 1800s. Sometime around 1817 the Nelsons moved from Greenville to Overton County Tennessee. My Direct ancester is William Nelson born around 1760. I have become convinced that he is the son of one of the two Robert Nelsons who were living in the Greenville area at the time. William moved with his sons Joseph and Robert Nelson, and a Daughter named Rebecca who was married to Jesse Allen, along with a number of other closely related families, who all settled in the Overton and Jackson County Tennessee area. Through my research I have found that one of the Roberts was a Doctor who served in the Revolutionary war and had his practice confiscated by the British. He married Rebecca Barrett and died in 1808. I do not believe that this Robert is my direct ancestor. I have no information at all about the other Robert other than There is a William Nelson living close by that has the correct number of children with corresponding ages that would closely match the ages of my relatives. Any information about either Robert Nelson would be helpful along with any other information about this line of Nelsons. I have been able to gather quite a lot of information about my family starting with William Nelson and would be glad to share.
