I am trying to clear up and problem I have with my Lumsden ancestry in order to get my DAR application corrected and approved.
This is a very complicated family to research. Alot of 2nd marriages, no 1890 census, no Sucession or Will of Jesse M Lumsden
and Julia, no death certificates for 1880 or 1881 in Arkansas, no cemetery record found, so far no school records
of these Lumsden's in Jasper co GA.
I have been lead to believe my ancestor Elizabeth was the dgt of Jeremiah and Malinda Thurman Lumsden until NOW.
I need documentation of the children of Jesse M. Lumsden who married Julia Tucker or at least someone who
has proof that their ancestor was a sibling of this Elizabeth Lumsden or neice / nephew. I am including my
research in this quest in hopes someone can help me. The book by Virginia Preston does NOT help in this
mystery. I also do not of any proof of this same Elizabeth's death date or location just the fact that her 2nd
husband James O. Brooks stated on the 1900 Lamar Co TX census his marriage to wife Julia had been for 19 years (1881)
she must have died (maybe in childbirth) right after that census. Do not know when this 'yours, mine, & ours family
of Kitchens' and Brooks' moved to Texas nor the route they took (?thru Ark and Oklahoma).
James O. Brooks is listed in the Mahoney's Directory of Farmers and Merchants in the 1893/94 Edition vol 8 & 9 page 89. Some
of the Kitchens and some of the Brooks' kids stayed in AR and married there. Julia L. Kitchens married there July 1883 in Newport,
Jackson Co AR. She and A J have a large family and theydo move about AR / TX / OK visiting relatives. My ancestor,
Henry Lee Obediah Kitchens marries 1st Mary K. Redden in 1882 in Izard Co AR but it doesn't last very long then re marries to
Laura Clementine Gray in Independence Co AR (found the marriage not filed by MG) and they re marry in Paris, Lamar Co TX in 1896.
Would like to know WHY James O. Brooks is buried in Shoals Cemetery, Choctaw Co OK instead of Lamar Co TX where he
died Nov 17, 1905. Maybe they lived there after leaving Arkansas and before heading south to Paris Lamar Co TX.
We do not know what came of Charles S. or A. Kitchens / ? Brooks. I thought I had found Martha Brooks married to a
John F. West but a man emailed me that Brooks was not his wife's last name. She names kids Malinda B., James William,
Jesse Franklin. Familiar first names. Still seems as though this was her.
Jeremiah Lumsden and Elizabeth Belcher sons were John, Jeremiah C., Charles W. (died in 1815) and Jesse M.
Jeremiah C. and Jesse M. were executors of their father's estate. All 3 sons named a dgt Elizabeth. John's dgt Elizabeth was born
1813, Jeremiah's abt 1829, and Jesse M.'s Jan. 16, 1830. Jesse's dgt Elizabeth's birthdate is listed in Lumsden family bible and
I don't see in that bible listing the children of Jeremiah C. and Malinda Lumsden.
A Glenn M. Williams of 1998 Cherrywood St.,Vista CA 92083 (GlennMarla@aol.com
) submitted to the Church of Jesus Christ the
Latter-day Saints an Ancestral File (AF92-102263) in which he entered this Elizabeth dgt of Jeremiah and Malinda as the Elizabeth
who married Charles B. Kitchens. I would like to be in contact with someone who has access to Glenn's mother's research.
I exchanged emails with him regarding this marriage on August 3, 1998 (wish we had talked abt proof of her parents) in which his reply was:
"I have researched my files and the only place I could have gotten the dates and place of marriage for Elizabeth Lumsden and
Charles B. Kitchens would have been three place.
a. The county records of Newton Co GA.
b. A book on early Georgia Marriages
c. From a Lumsden family member. The most likely is Jerry Lumsden in Muleshoe TX. I have never bet Jerry but my mother
did. She is now deceased and I have no address for Jerry now. Her records are still in storage and I can't get to them until
her estate is settled. Jerry is probably a g g grandson of Jeremiah from Newton co. For three generations the Jeremiah
Lumsdens were Methodist preachers. The first ordained in Virginia. The last buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Wise Co TX
in 1910. (He would be a brother of Elizabeth's).
I will keep searching and would appreciate any more info you may have.
I have since found that this Glenn has died, SSDI Glenn M. Williams born Feb 16 1930 died Jan 17, 2001 Vista CA 92083
however there is a phone number listed online for a Glenn M. Williams in Spring Valley CA and none listed in Vista CA.

( There must have been a divorce not yet located and family handed down family story is Charles abandoned Elizabeth
at end of civil war when he didn't return to her. Maybe this child Charles S. or A. wasn't his but James O Brooks is
and this caused the problem. Charles was in the 3rd GA Vol Inf Co H. Newton Co GA Young Guards and prob stayed nearby during war.)

Arkansas death certificate 1938 of Henry Lee Obediah "Obe" Kitchens has as his mother's name "E. Clingham" but person writting
first wrote Georgia in place of firstname but then re wrote over it. Georgia was probably for birthstate and written on wrong line
and did put Charles Kitchens has his dad.
So, I conclude that Elizabeth, dgt of Jeremiah C. and Malinda Thurman Lumsden cannot be the Elizabeth that married Charles B. Kitchens, as she
is with C B in the 1860 and by herself with kids in the 1870) but rather the dgt of Jesse M. and Julia Tucker Lumsden mostly due to the fact that
Malinda's dgt Elizabeth is living with her in the 1860 Cherokee Co AL census and the 1870 Cleburn Co AL census. Elizabeth C. Lumsden Kitchens names
a dgt Julia L., a son Henry Lee Obediah (?named for Obediah Belcher), a son Jesse. Other Lumsden first names used were Sarah (dgt by dgt Julia L. &
Franklin L.son by dgt Julia before her marriage to A J Soward), Charles S. or A. is unknown.
