Dear Leroy:

I am contacting you because of your interest in Ripley County.
Indiana. My Great Grandfather marrried Phoebe Ann McMindes whose parents lived in Ripley Co., Ind. His name
was Wiliam Ewen Duncan. The marriage took place in
Hamilton County in 1867. I have not been able to find any
solid evidence of the parentage of William Ewen Duncan.
Family tradition has sit that his parents were Charles
Duncan and Marianne Ewen. His mother died at the birth
of William in April 1836 in Kentucky.

The purpose in contacting you is to find ways to resarch
the Duncan family. Family stories say they are from Scotland
and went to Northern Ireland and then to America when they
lost some battles in Northern Ireland. They landed in
Charleston, South Carolina-probably in the 1820's or later.

Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

Harrell Dean Duncan. (I think I will be changing my E-Mail
address in a week or so--but will remember to get back to
you with the new one.)

My greatgrandfather Charles Monroe was born 1855 and his wife was Sarah Eva Hunsucker. Their children were James,Hugh, Alvin,Hayden, Clayton and Mary. His father was James Duncan, motherCatharine Overturf. James father was William Duncan born some place in Pa. abt 1797. married Ellen Ludwick 1820 in Pa. William had 6 children: James,Eliza, Harden, William b.1838 married a Miss Hull,Joseph and Sarah Ellen. Not sure if my William that was b 1838 is your William and not sure if he married again. Going by the birth dates my Charles could not be the father of your William. Ripley Co. has a web site that may help. If I can help any way e-mail me.Leroy
