As a descendant of the Beddington (Surrey) Carews, I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who can trace their ancestry to this ancestor, either through the Carew lines or the FitzGerald (Gerladine) lines.

Thanks for the offer; at present I can't access my family tree on computer, but when I do I'll check what information I've got and get right back to you.

I have a Gee/Carew connection. I think you have been in contact with another distant cousin of mine Terry Chalkwright.
Ours is from Anne Gee daughter of Phillipa Carew and Richard Gee. I have been searching through your messages trying to find your email address with no luck!!!

Jacqueline, thanks for your email. my address is noel.caine@dse.vic.gov.au. I have been in touch with Terry, but not since March last year. I'd like to know your lines of descent from Anne Carew, so I can add them into my family tree. Terry gave me some information, but he said he stll had a lot of research to do. Contact me and I'll forward his last email to you so you can see if any of that information is new to you.
Best wishes,

Noel Caine

Further to my last message; is your David the one who was a bishop and died in 1176? I have no information on his line, if there is one.

Hello Jane and Noel,

I too am descended from Gerald De Windsor. My 2nd greatgrandmother was Frances Elizabeth Carew, daughter of Robert Shapland Carew and Euphemia Gordon.

I also would be very interested in any evidence of a line of descent from David.

The leading researchers on this line, who have worked on it for many, many years, have never attributed, nor established any descendants for David.

First, the main line of Carew is descended from William Fitz Gerald, eldest son of Gerald Fitz Walter and Nest, daughter of Rhys ap Tewdwr Mawr, King of Deheubarth. Her dowry was Carew in South Pembrook where the ruins of Carew Castle still stand. Tradition has it that William Fitz Odo Fitz William Fitz Gerald was the first to take the name Carew, i.e, William de Carew.

Second, David Fitz Gerald, bishop of St. David's, was a younger brother of the above William Fitz Gerald. He died 23 May 1176. He had many daughters and a son and heir, Miles Fitz David of St. David's, who accompanied his maternal half-uncle, Robert Fitz Stephen, to Ireland in 1169 in the expedition to aid Dermot, King of Leinster, in the recovery of his throne. He inherited the Barony of Iverk, in Ossory, from his maternal half-uncle Meiler Fitz Henry (died 1220). His decendents were Fitz Davids.

Third, my ancestor Robert Gordon Carew had a sister, Francis ("Fanny") Elizabeth Carew, born in 1853 in Ontario, Canada, who married a Mr. Popocock, and died in 1935 in Fairview, North Carolina. If this is your ancestor, I have more information for you.

Hello Tom,

I am the great great grandaughter of Fannie and Thomas Pocock. It was Pocock, by the way, and not Popcock, as stated in the obituary and telegram.

Their daughter Louise Pocock married Charles Walter Smith and was the mother of my grandmother Anna Louise (Louise Anne) Smith.

Thomas Pocock, Frances Carew Pocock, Louise Pocock Smith, and John Bomar and Jennie Pocock Bomar (eldest daughter of Thomas and Frances), are all buried in the same plot in Oakwood Cemetery, Spartanburg, SC.

I hadn't realized that David Fitz Gerald had children. I guess the information that I have deals strictly with the Carew line.

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of John. I did not find out until several months after. He and I had been coresponding, but the business of living family took me away from my research for several months, so I hadn't been in touch for awhile.

You and I have also coresponded. I was sending John information concerning various Carew descendants , as I came upon it. I do not know who has taken up the mantle of chief archiver for the Carew line. If it is you, or you know of who may have an interest in continuing the research, please let me know.

I have a Carew/Fitzgerald connection from 1820s of Ring, Co. Waterford, five miles south of Dungarvan.

Mary Carew b. @ 1800 married Maurice Fitzgerald in Ring.
Her name shows up as Carey in records in America/Wisconsin. I think I've found her father and some siblings. Write for details. Thanks.
