DEAD AT 104
The Oldest Man in Southern Indiana Passes Away
On Sunday night Nathanial Straughn died at the age of 104.
Had he lived until May 8th he would have added another year to his life.
He had been confined to his room for several years and the last four years had been very near blind. On account of ill health he failed to vote for many years, but although a life long Republican, expressed a desire last fall of being taken to the polls to vote for William Jennings Bryan, but was prevented on account of his feeble condition. He has been making his home with relatvies about four miles south-east of English, and his home was the occasion of a large gathering of people on May 8th , his birthday, each year. The remains were buried in the Beasley grave yard, Monday.

Seeking parents of Philip Weidman of Crawford County. He is buried in Wickliffe Cemetery. Was there an obituary for him?
Any relatives reading this message, please respond...even if you don't know what to say, just say that you are related or descended from Philip, and tell how.

Marianne with grateful thanks .

Nathaniel Straughan was an ancestor of mine and that is why I obtained this particular obit. Because he lived to be so old I thought there was a good chance his age was news worthy. I also found out that microfilm of the Crawford Co newspapers was available for the time span in which he died. Getting someone to search is the problem. Check with the Crawford Co Public Library and the Indiana Archives to find out if microfilm is available for the time period you search and ask about getting someone to look for you if you can't yourself. Good luck.

If you have a connection to the Straughans please let me know.

I'm sorry, Pat, but I have no information on the Straughans.
My interest is Weedman/Weidman obits. I posted a query just a few days ago, and thought that you were answering my query. Somehow, your message re: Straughan got to me, instead of your intended person,

Try again.
Good luck

If you mean Philip Wesley WEIDMAN (7 Feb 1848 - 1927) who first married Lucinda J. CLARK (Feb 1857 - 1 Jan 1910), he is the fourth child of David and Rebecca (CRECELIOUS) WEIDMAN. Rebecca's parents are Phillip Augustus and Rebecca A. (ENLOW) CRECELIOUS. Rebecca (ENLOW) CRECELIOUS is my GGG-grandaunt. Her brother, Doctor Franklin ENLOW, is my GGG-grandfather. Rebecca and "Frank"'s parents are Jesse Sr and Anna (HIGHFILL) ENLOW.

I can supply you with a gedcom of the ENLOW family that I have so far that includes info on the CRECELIOUS and WEIDMAN families where they connect. Just let me know.

I forgot to mention that Philip W. Weidman later married Sarah Elizabeth (BELCHER) GOLDMAN (14 Apr 1955 - 10 Dec 1943), daughter of Timothy and Sarah Elizabeth (WILSON) BELCHER and widow of Allen A. GOLDMAN.

Would this be Nathaniel "Natty" Straughan married to "Tenni" Martin?

Yes, Teeni(possibly Christina) Martin was the first wife of Nathaniel "Natty" Straughn/Straughan and after she died he married Catherine Conrad.

Some have listed a third wife, Mary "Polly" Brewer, but she was the wife of his nephew, Nathaniel Sanford Straughan, the son of John and Obedience Scott Straughn. Parents of John and Natty being John Straughn and Mary "Polly" Sanders/Saunders

Hello,
Have you anything more on Nathaniel's wife, Catherine Conrad? Was she related to the other Conrads who married in Crawford County at about the same time? : Susan (1827), Dorcas (1826), Elizabeth (1827), and Israel (1832)? I would be grateful for anything you have that can clarify this group, pleas. Thank you
Anna

I'm sorry Anna but I don't have information on the Conrad family. I descend from Teeni Martin and have info on the Martins though I only have the name of one of her siblings. I have not searched for info on Catherine Conrad and only know she was born c. 1800 in TN and died 18 Jan 1873. She is probably buried with Nathaniel in Seaton/Seton Cemetery. His obit says Beasley but it is Seton. He has a white stone which is hard to read. The cemetery is near Grantsburg.

Good luck,
Pat
