No relation. The Carlyon wreck occurred Friday, July 27, 1883 at what is now the hamlet of Ashwood on the Yates-Carlton Town line in northern Orleans County NY on the now-abandoned Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg Railroad (R. W. & O. RR). Seventeen people died including the engineer, (McCarthy) and fireman on the second engine (crew of pilot engine jumped to safety) and 25 injured. Included on the train were sleepers from the Michigan Central "Thousand Island Excursion Flier" attached at Suspension Bridge (Niagara Falls).

More detailed description in history column by C. W. Lattin (Orleans County historian) in Medina Journal-Register, Thurs. Oct. 4, 2012.
