Fellow VA Researchers:
I am wondering if any of you are researching the descendants of Samuel WELDON and Sarah Efford James City, VA. Samuel is said to have come to James City in 1675 as a factor of Philip Foster a merchant of London. Sarah's father was Peter Efford. I have just found that my 5 g great grandparents were probably SAMUEL BENTLEY d. 1786, Amelia Co,VA and Mary WELDON. I am trying to figure out who Mary WeldonÂ’s ancestors and family were.

Of relevant interest is the fact that I have been told and documentation upholds that among Samuel Bentley and Mary WeldonÂ’s children are in no particular order :
a. PETER EFFORD BENTLEY (wife (1) Martha MARKHAM and (2) Elizabeth GAY)
c. JOHN BENTLEY (wife Judith COBBs),
d. REBECCA ( husband ? WINSTON)
e. MARY (husband Edward BOOKER)
f. RACHEL (husband John Hyde SAUNDERS, Jr.) This is my line. Allied families in VA are UNDERHILL, RISLE, HYDE,WASH,BAUGH,LIPSCOMB,MCGEHEE.
g. KITTY ( husband ? ANDERSON.).

An LDS listing shows more children, but the Amelia Bentleys tend to get all mixed up. The names above reflect SamuelÂ’s wills and a series of related land transactions in Amelia Co in the 1780s from Samuel Sr. to his sons...John and Samuel are not mentioned in the will.
As a consequence I was quite excited at first when I found the following information on the internet in several places. My Mary Weldon is not here but it says that the only known child of Samuel WELDON 1650-1692 and Sarah EFFORD ??-aft 1704, is a Samuel WELDON who at what looks like age ten marries Elizabeth ALLEN. He appears to be born well after his father is dead—by twenty years.
Can any of you help me? Unless I am badly mistaken (which I have been in the past) it would appear that a generation is missing between Samuel Weldon/Sarah Efford and Samuel Weldon/Elizabeth Allen and I am hoping that my Mary Weldon, wife of Samuel Bentley falls as a descendant of one of the children in the missing generation. Given the fact that her son is named Peter Efford Bentley, one is William Weldon Bentley, there is daughter Mary she looks like an excellent candidate to be a child of Samuel Weldon and Sarah Efford.
Here is a nutshell of the information I found several places:
1. Samuel WELDON, born Abt. 1650 in England; died before1692 in VA. In 1682 he married Sarah EFFORD the daughter of Peter EFFORD. Sarah was still alive in 1704.

ONLy child of Samuel WELDON and Sarah EFFORD is:
2. Samuel WELDON, born ca. 1715 in James City Co VA; died 1748 in Henrico Co VA; married Elizabeth ALLEN Abt. 1725 in James City.

Children of Samuel WELDON and Elizabeth ALLEN are:
3. Samuel WELDON, born 1725 in Halifax Co NC; died 1782 in 57y, Weldon, NC; married Penelope SHORT Abt. 1750.
3. Benjamin Weldon, born after1725; died 1756 unmarried in Southampton Co VA.
3. Daniel Weldon, born after 1730; died ca. 1763 in Granville Co NC; married Elizabeth EATON Jan 17, 1753 in Granville Co NC.
4. Elizabeth Weldon, born bef. 1743; died after1768; married Roderick EASLEY.
5. Priscilla Weldon, born before. 1743; died after1759; married John JONES.

My Mary Weldon would have have to have been born in the time frame covered by these children as her daughter Rachel Bentley was married in 1775.
Any thoughts are much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
