Birth records found but need help telling where they were born at???

I have traced the birth records of many family members online with I am having difficulties with knowing exactly where they were born at. I am finding all the records in Skudene Parish Records in Rogaland County. However the farm names attached are of Langaker. So does that mean that the parents were born in Langaker? If thats the case why am I finding all the birth records in Skudenes Parish and not in Karmoy's parish? Is Karmoy even a parish? I am confused. Other family members that have research on this family have the family being in Langaker, Karmoy, Rogaland, Norway. Well I am finding all records in Skudenes Parish, so i need help figuring out where they were born at. For instance the first person is Hans Svenson Born April 7 1854, I have traced his birth record its located in Rogaland County, Skudene Parish, 1854 Birth Records Page 68 line 61. Please help me figure out where he was born at and what Karmoy is and Langaker, and why the records are all in the parish of Skudene...

Surnames: Langager, Langaker
Here is your Hans' original 1854 baptismal record (#61):
Source information: Rogaland county, Skudenes, Parish register (official) nr. A 3.1 (1847-1863), Birth and baptism records 1854, page 68.

It appears he was born at the Langager farm in Skudenes to farmer Svend Jacobsen and Anne Marie Hansdatter. Four of the witnesses were from the same farm - so they were probably related.

Here is Hans and his family in the 1865 Ferkingstad Parish, Skudenes/Skudesnæs Kommune, Rogaland County census. Note again, Langager/Langaker is a farm name, not the name of a parish or municipality/place in Norway. His parents were born in the same kommune/municipality.

Same location at the time of the 1875 Norway census:
Wikipedia: Karmøy is a municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located southwest of the city of Haugesund in the traditional district of Haugaland.

Karmøy was created as a new municipality on 1 January 1965 after the merger of Kopervik (city), Skudeneshavn (city), Skudenes, Stangaland, Torvastad, Åkra, and most of Avaldsnes.

So that should explain the confusion!!

While researching your ancestors, I would stick with the Skudenes church records! :)

BTW: The letters "g" and "k" were often interchangeable in Norway: ie: Langager/Langaker

Hope this helps!!

Vickie is right. I live in Haugesund myself... (I'm not originally from around here, though, so I do _not_ know all about the history about the places around here, haha). Skudenes/Karmøy is just outside Haugesund. He is born at Langaker farm, in Skudenes, and Skudenes is located at Karmøy (øy = island). (At least today it is a part of what's called Karmøy... Vickie explained the merging part, so I won't go into that.)

Here Hans Svendsen is baptist, number 26, father: Svend Jacobsen ("son of Jacob") Langaker (farm), mother: Anne Marie Hansdatter ("daughter of Hans"). His "sponsors" are mostly from Langaker (...look at page 2 - to the right - for sponsors).
