I am researching Blounts/Blunts of Mixbury from about 1570-1720. I have a copy of the will of Richard Blount who had six children living- Welsbourne, John, Elisabeth, Joane,Ellen, and William. Richard appears to have been a widower at his death. The will is dated 1628. Does anyone out there have any idea of who Richard may have married? Other relevant names are Sill,Wellesbourne, Wheatley,Wellicome,Jakeman all mentioned in the will as either beneficiaries or witnesses.

Hi there,

I know your post was quite a while ago, so I don't know if you've found the information you needed, but I might be able to help. I live about ten minutes away from Mapledurham House, which was owned during the English Civil War by Sir Charles Blount. I have the guidebook for the house, and at the back is a family tree tracing the line back to around the 1200s.

The Richard you mention, who is listed as born in 1564 and dying in 1628, was married twice. First, to Cecily Baker (d.1619). Two children are listed (I presume the others were omitted for the purposes of only showing the direct line in the guidebook).

They were:
1) Sir Charles (1598-1644)
2) William (d.1676).

Richard's second marriage was to a woman named Elizabeth Moore, but no information on her is given.

If you would like a scanned copy of the tree, I would be happy to email it to you.

Hope this helped. Regards, R.Jones

Thankyou so much for answering my post. I thought for a while that the Richard Blount was also a member of the Blounts of Mapledurham, but my Richard died in 1629 and was a resident of Mixbury in Oxon. His family is very different to Richard Blount of Mapledurham, altho` his son Welsborne was a resident of Bicester and occupied the same house that Charles Blount of the Mapledurhams did in Bicester. I have tried in vain to connect the families, but I feel that my Blounts may be poor cousins of that family, and probably hail from Northants, as there is a large contingent of Blounts/Blunts in that county just over the border.
I am trying to find a marriage for my Richard and I now feel that I probably will look in vain, as the Mixbury records begin in 1645 for marriages.
It is wonderful to hear from someone after all this time, and if you have similar interests in that family, perhaps I have information that may help you.
Thankyou very much again, it is very kind of you to take the time to reply.
Kind regards,
