several children.Sarah, Elizabeth, Joel, Richard and Lewis.

This family lived in Platte Twp., Buchanan Co., KS from 1850 till 1880 that is confirmed. William was deceased in the 1880 census. I would be grateful for any reply concerning this Taylor family. Thank you, Joan

It is your William with whom I am trying to establish a connection. Who were his parents; who were his siblings; where did he live, where married, owned land where, where was he in 1880, etc.

Give me something to go on, and I can help you.

Dear Robert; Our telephone lines were down for a few days due to the storm from the gulf up through parts of Al. I am resending my message to you in response to your reply to my original inquiry. You may have answered and were not able to get through to me.This is what I have on the Taylor family;
1.Fact; Evaline Taylor married Robert Whitehead 12/24/1846
in Buchanan Co., MO.She is supposed daughter of Wm.
Taylor. (Evaline is supposed to be the daughter of Wm.
and his first wife not proven)
2.Fact; Evaline b. in VA.
3. Fact; Evaline & Robert lived in Henry Co., Ill. 1850. A Martha
Taylor is in the house hold age 10 b. Ohio
4.Fact; Alfred Taylor living 2 doors away from Evaline & Robert in
Henry Co. 1850.
5.Fact; Wm. Taylor b. Va.& spouse Margaret are found in 1850
Fed. census Buchanan Co., Plattsburg, MO.
William married Margaret Wilhelm Jan. 21, 1845
in Buchanan Co., MO.
6.Fact; William Taylor's children are as follows (from census 1850
Mary ** age 11 b. VA.
Jane age 10 b. VA.
Sarah age 9 b. MO.(Sarah is shown as Wilhelm
in 1870 census)
Elizabeth " 8 "
Joel " 5 "
Richard " 3 "
Lewis " 1 "
Keep in mind that Evaline (supposed daughter of Wm. ) was married in Buchanan Co. in 1846. I think these first two children in the 1850 census were Wm.'s by his first wife and the third and fourth child were Margaret's by her previous marriage. The first two were born in VA. prior to the marriage of Margaret and Wm. Taylor in MO. in 1845 and the third and fourth were born in MO. also prior to their marriage.
7.Fact; Wm. Taylor and family are living 2 doors down from
Evaline Taylor(daughter of Wm. Taylor?) Whitehead spouse Robert and family in
Platte Twp., Buchanan Co., MO in 1860. In Wm. Taylor's
family are these folks, wife Margaret, sons' Joel, Richard,
and Lewis.
8. Fact; Platte Twp. Buchanan Co. MO. 1860 2 doors from Wm.
Taylor is the Whitehead family as mentioned above.
(see children in fact 6, note Mary) In the household of
Robert and Evaline Taylor Whitehead is a Mary Taylor
age 21 b. VA. This is probably the same Mary listed in
1850 but not confirmed.
9. Fact; Platte Twp., Buchanan Co., MO. 1870
Wm Taylor, spouse Margaret b. Ohio
William age 17,
Lewis 15
Ellen 13
Sarah Wilhelm 24
Where this William came from is a mystery. He is not listed in the 1860 census with William and Margaret.
10.Fact; Platte Twp., Buchanan Co., MO. 1880
Margaret Taylor - widowed age 67 b. Ohio
Sarah -daughter age 37 b. MO.
William W. -son age 26 b. MO.
living next door to Margaret is son;
Lewis Taylor age 3? b. MO.
Rebeca J. -wife age 27
also listed are 4 children of Lewis Taylor.
William is deceased by 1880.

I am trying to verify that Wm. Taylor is indeed the father of my Evaline Taylor. Any help that you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your reply to my quiry.

Joan --
Thank you for your lengthly response. I understand your problems - i.e.: filling in the holes. Unfortunately, the answers to my inquiry probably lie in William's ancestors. So, we are both still at a brick wall.
Please advise if you obtain further information about William's ancestors.

TAYLOR, WILLIAM S. (1795-1858). William S. Taylor, attorney, state legislator, and planter, was born in Georgia in 1795 and lived in Fayette County, Alabama, and Tippah County, Mississippi, before moving to Texas in May 1847. He fought in the Seminole Wars in Florida in 1817-19 and was a captain in 1836. In 1841 he was appointed brigadier general of the Alabama State Militia. Taylor served in the state legislatures of Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas, where he became speaker of the House. He was first elected to the Texas legislature in 1855 as a representative of Cherokee and Anderson counties. He was reelected in 1857 and was chosen as speaker when the legislature convened on November 2, 1857. He served until December 26, when illness prevented his attending. He formally resigned because of illness on January 18, 1858. He died on July 22, 1858, and was buried in Larissa, Texas. His portrait hangs in the speaker's committee room at the Capitol.qv Taylor and his wife, Elizabeth, had fifteen children, one of whom, William S. Taylor, Jr., fought in the battle of San Jacinto.

There was a General Taylor living in Dallas County, Alabama who became a widower, December 1823, leaving him with three children including an infant born early December 1823. Could this general be William S. Taylor who later owned property in the Larissa community and Cherokee County, Texas in the 1850's? I am related to William C. Taylor, born in AL in December 1823. William C. Taylor, husband of Martha Riddle, owned property in Larissa in the 1850's and would have been a neighbor of William S. Taylor.
