ALGEO in Gin Gin 1886

I have a death notice for a William Bullerfield [actually Butterfield] Algeo who died Jan. 20,1886, at the home of his son in The Grange, Gin Gin. First of all, I think but am not sure that Gin Gin is in the Wide-Bay Burnett Region.

Second, my quick look at web resources suggests that there are no census records as such for Queensland in this period.

I would very much like to figure out the name of the SON at whose home W.B. Algeo died. Electoral rolls seem to show a John Algar in QLD in this period, but not convincing that this is his son.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to find out the name of this son?

Santa T.

Thanks for your responses. My knowledge of the geography of this area is woefully weak and I wasn't sure exactly where Charles L. was located, i.e., was he in Gin Gin. Information online about this death (given as William B. AlgeR) is very odd, given what I thought I knew about him. It appears that there may be more than one William Butterfield Algeo, and it is unclear which one died in 1886! The newspaper mention gives a preposterous age at death. We've sent away for the death certificate anyway, which should tell us a bit more. And the William B. Algeo I'm looking at (or I THINK I'm looking at) was married at least 3 times and may have had sons from all these marriages, in Ireland, England, and Canada.

There are 2 William Butterfield ALGEOS', father and son I think.
If you follow the BDMs in QLD and NSW and search the online newspaper site TROVE it should help clarify the information you are after.

Hi Santa,

If it's any help, Charles Lockhart Algeo and wife Fanny were listed as resident on the 1903 Queensland electoral roll at Arcadia Farm, South Kolan (near Gin Gin).

He died in Queensland, 1943.

1943/C87 Charles Lockhart Algeo
Parents: William Butterfield & Mary Ann Lockhart

W.B.Algeo's two other sons with wife Mary Ann Lockhart (married Manning River, New South Wales, 1856)...

William Henry Algeo, who, by the births of his children, appears to have been in New South Wales at the time of his father's death...

and Norman, who died in NSW, 1869.

Cheers, Anne
