Can anyone tell me if a cemetery in Marion County, called Walnut Hill or Old Walnut Hill Cemetery, still exists? And if so, is it accessible? Thank you!

Thanks, Johnnie - appreciate your thoughtfulness. We're keeping our fingers crossed - this cemetery, if still accessible, may hold a very important key to our research! Thanks again!

Diane,
I believe the cemetery you are talking about may be Little Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Walnut Hill. If so, what names are you looking for? This cemetery is still accessible. Which direction are you coming from? We have grave sites there and go frequently so I can help you a lot. Have pictures of many of the headstones there.
The other cemetery just outside of Walnut hill is Old Covenanter and it is also accessable.
Contact me and I will see if I can help.

Sheila

Sheila, thanks so much for the hopeful news! Principal name we're looking for is Morrison. We have a family document stating that a daughter of my gg grandfather, John Morrison, is buried in "Walnut Hill Cemetery". Her name was Barbara Morrison, she died as a young girl and is reportedly buried next to her mother. Our "missing link" (and key to some research) is her mother - we have no idea what her name was. Barbara was born approx. 1859 or 1860. Any help or insight is appreciated. When we come, we would be coming from St. Charles, MO area. Thanks again for responding! Dianne

There is a cemetary at the Little Grove Cemetary in Walnut Hill is that the one your thinking about? Then there is one at the end of the Old Walnut Hill Rd.

Hello, You said that you have some cemetry books. I was wondering if you would please look to see if you can locate Mary Knight who was living in Marion Co., in 1870 at the age of 91. Also Zarelda Hill who was 47 in 1870 and John Neale who died between 1852 and 1859. Thank you very much. Opal

I found out the Walnut Hill Cemetery is in Marion County, Illinois, in the Village of Walnut Hill,Illinois. They do have a phone number but when I called no answer. It might be they are only there so many hours out of the week since it is very small. You could also call Marion County Courthouse in Salem, Illinois. The cemetery is on highway 37. I had the phone number for Walnut Hill City hall but can not find it now when I do will send it to you.
Lots of luck,
Johnnie

I could not find those names you listed in the cemetery books I have. The Romine cemetery book I have has only two Knight s and it is a Jesse H. and Jessie M.Knight in Romine Township, Marion County, Illinois.
Thanks,
Johnnie
