Hello! I am the person who has information regarding a possible Hessian Soldier Connection. But Please Note That in Fact "Daniel Eschman" is not the probable Hessian Soldier we are looking for.. I have all but eliminated him completly.. My Great Grandfather Jeramiah Ishman was positive the first "Ishman" was a German Soldier paid by the British to come here during the Revolutionary war.. He was also sure we came from Canada and possible Nova Scotia.. This is how I found Georg Jakob Oestmann, Astman, Ostman, Aikman, Artzmann.. (these are all the name variations he had in Nova Scotia) The Hessian we should focus on is Geog Jakob Astmann, Oestmann, Ostman, who was a soldier in Ansbach-Bayreuth.. He was granted 150 acres in Nova Scotia in 1784 and left there with a wife and children after 1791..He had a child named Georg Junior named after him and who is also listed with him on the 1791 census...I have researched this for years and I am quite confident this is who we should be looking at... The earliest form of Ishman that appears in the US is "Istman" also Istmann, Eastmann, Eastman, which can be found in various PA census records and cycle through until finaly settling on Ishman around 1860 where it has stayed since..

I would love to talk with you. I have done quite a bit of research recently and have made contact with decendants from Joseph's and Rebecca's sons Joseph and Henry. I would love to trade information since it appears you have been able to go much further than I have. I have been unable to get beyond the 3 brothers. I have been to the National archives and found the birth record of a David Ishman's son Joseph (I believe this David is one of the 3 brothers that we are aware of--Joseph, David and Moses) David's wife's name was Catherine Rauchin and their son was born in Obermachanay Township in PA. I have gathered all of the civil war records for Ishmans that I could find and have even found an error with the military records for Nelson. Please email me if you would like to make contact at
