Adam Sherrill received his patent for this land later in the year for 100 acres at anteatum creek. He apparently did not remain long here and probably found the winters in the foothills of western Maryland much colder than was practiccal for farming. Adam began moving south and appears in a militia list of Augusta County Virginia in 1742 with his brothers.
Adam is credited with being the first settler at Catawba, North Carolina at Sherrill Ford about 1747. Received patent on Catawba River in 1751.

Notes for ELIZABETH ?:
Elizabeth's name by tradition is supposed to be Corzine. A corzine family did live near the PA MD border and followed the same emigration pattern as the Sherrill's to North Carolina, however a visit to the Maryland archives produced no meanngful inormation that would confirm here name.

Children of ADAM SHERRILL and ELIZABETH ? are:
i. WILLIAM6 SHERRILL1, b. May 01, 1723, Cecil Co; Maryland; d. December 31, 1786, Lincoln Co; North Carolina; m. AGNES WHITE, April 12, 1743, Augusta Co; Virginia; b. February 26, 1725/26, Augusta Co; Virginia; d. November 29, 1795, Lincoln Co; North Carolina.

His home was called Daisy Fields. He was a constable.

iv. ADAM SHERRILL1, b. November 01, 1731, Cecil Co; Maryland; d. 1787, Sherrill's Ford, North Carolina; m. (1) ELIZABETH LOWRANCE; m. (2) SINA CORZINE.
v. AQUILLA SHERRILL, b. November 30, 1733, Cecil County, Maryland; d. 1805, Green County, Tennessee; m. LUCRETIA WILSON; b. Abt. 1733, Cecil County, Maryland; d. Aft. 1805, Green County, Tennessee.

Aquilla Sherrill was born in Cecil County, Maryland. IN the early 1740's he would have assisted his father in perfecting the title to the land near Antietum Creek in western Maryland by clearing, improving and planting the land. Shortly there after the familiy moved south even before the serious Indian troubles of the French and Indian War.
Aquilla arrived at Sherrills Ford, North Carolina with his father, Adam Sherrill Sr. in 1747. Aquilla Sherrill witnessed the 1762 deed from his father Adam to Moses Sherrill in Rowan County, North Carolina. On 4 May 1774, he was named executor of his fathers will but did not serve. Possibly he had by then relocated to Tyrone Co., NC. In 1774, he was constable in Tyrone Co., NC.
In 1778 he acquired 400 acres of land on the south side of the Catawba River in Burke Co. Nc. This land adjoined that of Ute Sherrill, Richard Lewis, and John Perkins. This land was obviously near that of Jacob Sherrill Sr. (his brother) who married Hulda Wilson. Hulda is believed to be the sister of Aquilla's wife Lucretia. Aquilla sold this 400 acre plot to John Perkins on 22 Nov. 1791.
Prior to this sale Aquilla Sherrill received a grant of land for 30 pounds in Greene County NC; 300 acres on Cove Creek on the south side of the Nolichucky River. This grant was dated 20 Sep 1787.

Washington County Tennessee Wills 1777-1872, by Goldene Fillers Burgner, Southern Historical Press, 1983, Chattanooga Public Library Tenn R.976.897.Bur ,page 45, No.537
"For 10 pounds per 100 acres-to Acquilla Sherril 300 acres in Green County on Cove Creek, South side of Nolichucky River. Richard Caswell at Kinston, 20 September 1787."

A few years later on Dec 26 1791 William Huchuinson acquired 150 adjoining acres. This land also adjoined Samuel Wilson and Alexander Martin. Aquilla was evidently in residence on this property prior to 1785 when he was appointed to view and mark a road from Warm Springs on the French Broad River to Greenville. He was appointed to do the same twice more, the last of record being a road from Greenville to Aquilla Sherrill's. Greene Co., NC became Greene Co., TN in 1796. The land in Greene Co., TN was sold on 21 Apr 1805 following his death to Wm. Houston. This Houston was the husband of Hannah Sherrill daughter of Adam Sherrill Sr. (son of Samuel) and Mary McCormick.
Aquilla's will was discovered among the old files of Green County Tennessee, formerly Greene County Nc. around 1966. A transcription of this will from a xerox copy provided by Wanda Clark of Oklahoma follows.

In the name of God Amen, I Aquila Sherl of the County of Green and State of Tennessee being very sick and weake but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed fro all men once to dye, do make this my last will and testament thaat is principaly and firts of all I recommend my sole to the hand of Almighty God that gave it, and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a Christian decent manner, nothing doubting but at the genearl resurrection I shall recieve the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching of such worldly estatets wherewith it hath been pleasing to God to indow me with in this life.
