Searching for Richard Gibson BROWN, my 2nd great paternal grandfather. We've been looking for his ancestry for years! The closest we can find so far is him as son of Valentine BROWN and Seviah (SPINKS) BROWN in Half Moon, NY b. 1796. He married Rhebeca MOORE (from OH) on 12 Jan 1844 in Rock Island, IL. They moved on to IA and their children were Loammie, Benjamin, Susan and Richard.
BUT, we're not sure he's the right one. There is family lore of being descended from Chad BROWNE...

If anyone has info on good old "R.G", please let me know. I'm willing to share what I have, of course, and also willing to dig if you have any leads. Thanks/Wado

btw - my father's maternal line is full of Cherokee.

Hi Richard, do you know which brownsociety.org family [DNA] group your line of Browns are in? This [DNA] information will go a long, long way toward finding your ancestors, mother's & father's side. Who do you trace your oldest/earliest known [male] Brown ancestor to? My mom's family is closely [per DNA results] related to Gibson, Brown & Fisher. Moore is the 3rd most popularly related surname to my mom, per DNA results.

Hi Marshall,
I've not done DNA testing yet, but it's in the plans to do soon. How exciting that your Mom's is closely related to Gibson, Brown and Moore!

I've not yet been able to make the Gibson connection to the Brown family, but it seems likely since it was Richard's middle name.

Were your Browns and Moores in OH > IL > IA by any chance? That's the migration pattern for mine.

btw - this post is ancient, and I don't believe that there's a connection to the Narragansett

all the best,
Beth

If you don't have a connection to the Narragansett, why do you post on the Narragansett message board?
