Hola José Luis, where are you?
It seems there are a lot of us Vera's in America. Anyway, it looks like we are all from Spain via the Canary Islands. My grandfather was Manuel Vera and grandmother Lucía Mendoza from the Canary Islands. My father was first generation Cuban Felix Manuel Vera Mendoza brothers and sisters Juana, María, Lucía, Severino, Mario y Juan.

Dad was born on July 29, 1904 in Yumurí, Matanzas and there are three of us Manny G., John Louis (funny how Manuel, Juan and Luis show up).

We are now living in Miami, Florida; but some of the family is still in Matanzas.

Keep in touch.

I just started with this and don't really know much; but I'll slowly start looking it up and using this service. Let's see where we all come from and how we relate...

During the early explorations of South Texas and northeastern Mexico, by Don Jose de Escandon in the middle 18th century, the famiy of Jose Maria Vera was granted several prociones (large tracts of land). Since then many generations of Veras have settled this land. Through my mother my family has lived in this wilderness country for almost 300 years.

Just thought that I could share that small piece of history.

Thanks

Yo cuento con un árbol familiar de los Vera, pero la mayoría son de Querétaro. ¿que me puedes decir de tu lado de los Vera?

My grandmother's maiden name is Vera her grandfather was Saturnino Alaniz Vera of Tamaulipas Mexico. He married a woman named Victoriana Gonzalez Martinez. Saturnino moved to the Duval County area where he owned a ranch called the San Buena Ventura. Do you know of a man named Homero Vera? If you do he's my cousin. He's the one who has the El Mesteno on the web. Please let me know if these names ring a bell. Who knows we might be related and not even know it. Hope to hear from you soon.

Tila.

Yes, I am aware of the names. Saturnino Vera's father was Guillermo Vera. Guillermo Vera had a brother Mariano Vera, who was my maternal greatgreatgrandfather.

I know Homero ver well, I have written a few articles for the El Mesteño magazine.

Where do you live and how are you related. I am currently writing a book on the González family and you should be in book. However, if you are not, maybe you can send me the information and can I can include you and your family in it.

Thanks

Juan,
I'm having a difficult time following my Escandon branch. I've looked at census records, the Morman Family History Center, Univ. of AZ Special Collections, St . Augustine Church records, AZ state archives. My grandmother Petra Jimenez was Escandon prior to marriage. Her father was Joaquin Escandon m. to Petra Yanez Jan 1893 in Tucson, AZ. Joaquin was born 1864 in San Juan de Gracia, Sonora; died 1935 in Tucson. I have his dearth cert. but the names of his parents aren't noted. He arrived in Tucson about 1880. He was a rancher in Cortaro, AZ located just north of Tucson. Do you have any info. on the Escandones from your area?
