Sandra - my John Rotchford was born in NY in 1847. He served in the Civil War under alias of James Riley. His parents were William (born Ireland) and Isabella. Do you have a birth date for your John Rotchford - perhaps he is the grandfather of mine.

Mick;
My John Rotchford was born about 1828 in Mayo, Ireland and he left Ireland after the potato famine and moved to Tadcaster,Yorkshire,England around 1851 with his mother Mary and brothers William,Anthony,Patrick,Michael,Thomas
and i beleve there could have been others(Martin and James).William would have been born about 1829 and Anthony about 1831, both were born in Knockmore, Mayo, Ireland. John's father name was John (who i beleave died in Ireland during the potato famine).

Vita;
My Ratchford's came from Ireland to England then the United States. They first settled in Kansas,my grandfather then moved to British Columbia in the early 1900's. There was some of his family living in Seattle,Washington for a while.
My Ratchford name was also spelt Rotchford,Rochford and
Rachford. I beleave there all the same,the spellings were differant depending on where they were at.What year was your Rotchford's, when they were in Olympia Wa.? Your Rotchford's i'm sure are Roman Catholics because of the spelling on there first names.Such as John,Patrick,Frank (Franklyn),These names are also in my family as they are Roman Catholics from Mayo,Ireland.
Sandy.

Sandy,
I have e-mailed this to my father as I am absolutely not qualified to answer your questions or even have a clue...I am guessing he might, and he has always been interested in our ancestry...all I can tell you is that my Dad was 1 of 7 children, and he was born in 1940....so I am guessing here now that my Grandfather Frank was born 1915 ish??? but it is a guess....he passed away when I was about 5 or so....both Frank and Catherine Rotchford, my Grandparents have passed and are buried in Olympia....Catherine passed oh, in 1994 or 1995.....
I will call my father tomorrow to make sure he received the e-mail and send him to the site....
All my best Sandy!!
Vita Catherine Rotchford

There was a John Rotchford, 1857-1910 who was a White House Policeman from 1902 to 1910. He was born in Alexandria, VA and lived in Washington DC. I am unable to view your photo as you posted your question many years ago, but this may explain the uniform if this is the same person.

Sorry the photo is too old for our recognition. My father is Edward John Rotchford and his father was John Edward Rotchford. My grandfather, John, served in WWI and married Margaret Connolly. We are all living outside Boston. My father, Edward was born in 1926.I would be interested in follow up. I am his first child, Joyce born in 1952. My name is not changed and I have one child, a daughter.
