I am searching for information on my ancestors who lived in Canada. My great grandfather was William J. Reid and he was born in 1872 in Canada. His parents where Abram Reid and Doroty (Ferguson)Reid. Williams siblings where Hanna, Mary and Robert Reid; also Lousie Brown and Tom Williams. William was a Blacksmith in London, Ontarion for a time about 1891-1893 and then moved to MI and married my great grandmother Alice Josephine Vincent. I have not located any information on my Reid ancestors in Canada yet. Is there a connection with your Reid's ?

Hi there ,

Thanks for your e-mail

My Martha Dennison was born 1856 in Caledon probably on the
farm where James(sr) and Mary Ann Mcbride lived?

I think my Martha's husband Charles Caleb Olliff could have been a brother or father to your Mary??

Do you have any more information about them? Where they
lived and farmed..

I think one of the Dennison farms was later sold to Charles Caleb and Martha ..I forget whether it was James Dennison (sr) or James Jr's farm..

I will see what else I can find out for you..

Hope to hear from you soon,
Thanks again,

Gilbert ROWAN was also an early settler (Crown land grant, ca 1817) in Caledon. He had nine ch, and I have info on most but not all. The youngest, Mary, moved to San Francisco when an elderly widow with her dau's family and I am descended from that line.
I'd like to find out if this Rowan family is the one connected with MacDonald as I do not have that name in my files yet.

I do have a Trout book -- The Trout Family History written by William Henry Trout in 1916. I understand that there is a newer edition -- is this the second book to which you are referring? or is there yet another?

I have learned of another book "Kirkwoods" which includes information on many related families. This is a fairly recent book, written by Mary Ann Van Sickle. I have not been able to obtain a copy through ILL and hesitate to dish out the american $ if it's a rehash of what I already know. Have you heard of it?

I have extremely little on the McNaughtons....

Please e-mail me privately if you like:

A number of the names related to your McDonalds of Caledon are also names
which married into the McKinnon families. There have been at least two large books written on the Trout family.

Noted the surnames Trout, Orr and Reid in your message. From the Trout Family History I know that Robert Reid(1840-1873) married Rebecca Wansbrough(1845-1889), daughter of Richard Wansbrough and Rachel Orr. Is this Robert a part of the Reid family of interest?
I am interested in learning more about this branch of the family for my Wansbrough research.

Hello Elaine and Lucy!

I am hoping that we are researching the same families. I have:

Harriet (Hattie) McDONALD (b. c. Jan 1868, Caledon, Peel Co., Ontario) married c. 1886 to
B. Franklin (Frank) FRANCE (b. c. Oct 1856, Dakota Co., Minnesota Territory) They then lived in Hawley, Clay Co., MN for most of their lives.

I believe that Harriet was one of 13 children of:
George M. McDONALD (b. 15 Feb 1835, Caledon, ONT; d. 25 Nov 1913, Hawley, MN) & Emma (b. c. 1840, Canada).

And the parents of George M. McDONALD were:
Daniel McDONALD and Rachel TROUT, both of Scotland.

Please feel free to contact me at:
I'd appreciate any help you can give me with this! Thanks.

Best regards,
Liz France
