ORVILLE YANCEY
STEPHEN ORVILLE YANCEY was born in Prineville, April 11, 1896, the son of STEPHEN W. and SARAH JANE YANCEY. He married AUDREY MARTHA NOBLE August 25, 1918. She was the daughter of ANDREW and VARINA NOBLE and was born in Crook County, September 26, 1896.

Both ORVILLE and AUDREY graduated from Crook County High School in 1916. ORVILLE attended Oregon State College.

They engaged in ranching in Crook County for a few years and then moved to Sundre, Alberta, Canada where they bought a ranch. After a few years they returned to Crook County and again went into cattle ranching.

Shortly after this they purchased the City Transfer and Storage Company of Prineville which they operated for many years. After buying the ANDREW NOBLE ranch north of town they founded the Crooked River Meat Company, doing custom butchering supplying a large whoesale market. When they sold this business to a Porland firm they again returned to ranching on what was know as the Dry Creek Ranch. After retiring from ranching he took up horse training and racing. He and his wife traveled all over the Northwest and California with the horses. He was exercising one of his horses at Portland Meadows when he had a fatal heart attack in 1965.

Orville was active in many community affairs, belonging to the Odd Fellows and Elk Lodges. He was the first president of the Crook County Roundup and Fair Association, served on the Taylor Grazing Board, the Crook County School Board, a member of the County and State Cattleman's Association and the Crook County Pioneer Association.

The Yanceys had three children: -
(1)JUNE IRENE born 26 June 1919 married LYNN DUZAN, now deceased; they had three children.
STEVEN and wife, MARY E. DAVID, have two daughters; ELIZABETH and MELISSA.
LYNDA (MRS. LANCE SHAFFER) has two sons, COURT and TODD.
Son FRED and wife, BONNIE GILLEN, have one daughter ABBEY.
JUNE makes her home in Seattle where she is an Executive Secretary in the Bon Marche.

(2)ROBERT ORVILLE, was born in Olds, Alberta, Canada, March 18, 1921. He and wife JANE KRAMER had five children -
PAMELA (MRS. JOHN P. KEATING) has a son, JAKE.
SUSAN (MRS. RANDY PAPE) has three sons, RYAN, CHRISTIAN and JORDAN.
ANNE (MRS. IRWIN FEVES) has one son, CASEY.
ROBERT JR. and SARAH are still at home. ROBERT has been a representative for Purina Corporation for many years, he and his present wife, formerly JEANNE SANDIDGE, make their home near Tumalo.

(3)DONALD STEVEN born February 29, 1924, married PAULINE RAWLINS, they have three sons,
PAUL and wife WANDA WOODS have three children: KIMBERLY, STEVEN and SARAH.
STEVEN and wife SHARON ZIMMERMAN live in Redmond.
RICHARD married PATRICIA HAYCRAFT, they have one son, DONALD.

DONALD and wife PAULINE engaged in ranching for many years. He was later employed by the U. S. National Bank and is presently an official of Juniper Banking Company of Madras, Oregon. PAULINE has operated dress shops in Prineville and Bend.

AUDREY YANCEY was an invalid for approximately ten years before her death in 1973 from multiple sclerosis.
