GRIMES - YANCEY
The parents of NANCY ADELINE GRIMES and AL WESTON YANCEY were early pioneers. They traveled by wagon train westward to Oregon, where they settled.
ADELINE, the daughter of HENRY and SAMANTHA GRIMES was born in Prineville, Oregon, October 3, 1885. AL, the son of JESSE PRATT YANCEY was born on Shoshone Pass, White Pine, Nevada, April 2, 1880.
AL and ADELINE were married at the family home on Grimes Flat, Prineville in November 1903. They had a daughter, ELEANOR CATHERINE, born in Prineville, December 11, 1905.
AL drove a freight wagon from The Dalles to central Oregon. He was killed accidentally in Westwood, California on January 25, 1917.
Adeline had a boarding house in Prineville, where she and Elenor lived. It was known as "The Manhattan." Later, she opened a confectionary and lunch room in the new Ochoco Inn building. The name of this establishment was the "Yellow Punkin" and was considered the finest in the community.
Eleanor graduated from Crook County High School in 1924. That year Adeline sold her business and home, and with her daughter moved to Portland, then to Seaside, Oregon. Adeline lived in Seaside until the time of her death on October 9, 1961.
In Seaside on October 19, 1927, Eleanor married ALBERT FRANCIS "FRANK" KERR, who had recently moved to Seaside from St. Paul, Oregon. They founded an oil distributing business, the Service Oil Company, which they operated until he was forced to retire due to ill health. Frank Kerr died in Seaside on February 27, 1972.
Eleanor and Frank had a daughter LOU ANN, born in Astoria, Oregon October 16, 1929, Lou Ann graduated from Seaside High School and attended Marylhurst College.
On December 2, 1950 in Seaside, LOU ANN married RICHARD MALCOLM BATY of Seaside. To this union, five children were born:
MARCIA LOU BATY, JR. born in Eugene, Oregon, November 24, 1951.
RICHARD MALCOLM BATY, JR., born in Seaside, Oregon Mary 16, 1953.
MARIANNE ELIZABETH BATY, born in Seaside, 24 June 1955.
JAMES PATRICK BATY, born in Seaside, September 12, 1959.
NANCY KERR BATY, born in Seaside, 30 May 1964.
Marcia is a legal secretary in Seaside, where she lives with her husband, KENNETH RAY MAKELA. They were married in Seaside on September 16, 1972. Kenneth is an X-Ray Technician at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria, Oregon. The have a son, TODD WALTER MAKELA, born April 20, 1979 in Astoria.
Richard "DICK" Baty, Jr. graduated from the School of Architecture at the University of Oregon. He is a partner in Daystar Builders in Sunriver, Oregon.
Marianne graduated from the University of Oregon, where she was affiliated with Pi Beta Phi sorority. She lives in Portland and is employed as a Professional Employment Counsellor for Snelling and Snelling Employment Agency.
James is a student at Oregon state University and is a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Nancy Kerr Baty is a Junior at Seaside High School.
