1)History Foundation (fee paying so didn't look) Has Wicklow parish and civil registrations
the Government Registry Office
2) (will do small search)
3) (no luck for me)

Griffith Valuation would be the census substitute for
Dublin County 1855 and Dublin City-1846. so a lot of years before the 1901/11 Census.

Drumcondra is in Dublin North, and is both a Town and a townland and has two Parish's, Clonturk or St. George's.

I did find them finally at 48 Tolka Cottages, name listed as James surname, and I was looking for Devlin as the surname.

Nothing found for Dublin but this might not have Dublin City records.

Matthew James, birth registration Oct-Dec 1893 Rathdrum
I don't see any death records for someone of the right age, although there is Matthew born in 1872.

There a number of US Census with the name of Matthew James

There are a number of James from the s.w. area of Wicklow
the Shillelagh area. Not too far from Rathdrum (these are related to my husband's Codd family who left for Canada in 1819-1832.

Looked in WWI military deaths, none for born in Dublin,Ireland, but one is for Rathdrum but age didn't fit.

This is all I have found.

The CD's I have only go from 1864-1875, and without a name for his father, I can't go back further to trace his father's name and place of birth and his parents. Are you sure that there is no father's name on the birth record and marriage record.

I have only now viewed the board messages and was very surprised to find two messages from you. I thank you so much for doing so many searches for me. I really appreciate this.

Thank you so much for the prison records information. I am amazed he was arrested for loitering in 1910, that is the times of civil unrest in the country and their was a curfew on. I will certainly get the documention and add it to my family file.

I have the following,

Marriage: 26th May 1857 St Catherine Church Dublin

John James & Mary Egan (my great great grand parents)
John is from Newcastle Co.Wicklow
John's father is John James
John's father's occupation is Labourer
Mary is from Cole Alley Dublin
Mary's father is Francis Egan
Mary's father's Francis occupation is Servant

Mary had a child out of wedlock
Child: Maria Anne James
Date of Birth: 9th May 1857
Date of Baptism: 19th May 1857 St Catherine Church Dublin
Father: Joanna James (John)
Mother: Maria Egan (Mary)
Address: 14 Cole Alley Dublin

Mary and John had another child,
William James born 1st Nov 1865(my great grandfather)
Address: 1 Plunkets Court, Dublin, Ireland
Father: John James
Father's occupation: Labourer
Mother: Mary Egan

Marriage: abt 1886 of John and Mary's son William (born 1865) (Place of marriage unknown)
William married Jane Devlin (my great grandparents)

William and Jane had five children (Re:1911 census)

Thomas born 25th Jan 1892
address: Yellow Lane Drumcondra Dublin
Mathew James born 17th September 1893
address: Rathdrum County Wicklow
William James (my grandfather) born 3rd Nov 1895
address 12 Georges Place Dublin

What I totally forgot about is that my grandfather William James was a Protestant. so I am going to try and see if I can find their marriage record in the Bishop Street Archives
Also my grandfather William was a Blacksmith

Looking forward to hearing back from you

Mary :)

Hello: You can find Dublin City bmd on the website:

I believe its the only on line - free source! Some of the records you can view the actual entry in the parish registers.

I have no relationship to your family in case you were wondering, I just do this for fun its better than TV.
My husband's family were connected to the James family from the Coollattin Estate, Shillelagh & Carnew area.
