I am looking for information on McGunegles/McGonigals who emigrated from Ireland to New York and then to Michigan in the 1830s. Any information you might have would be greatly appreciated.

Zora McGonigal or McCongegal b. June 1835 and wife Maira
b, June 1838, both NY, Kids: Grove, wife Christina, moved to OR, John b. 1866, wife Mary Mattison, Jackson Co. MI, Summitt Township, Zora Jr. b. 1867, single at 42 in census. Lee b. 1879, Austin b. 1873, Archie b. 1875, married Jennie Mattison, Mary's sister, and Floyd b. 1880, I have found in 1880 and 1920 census so far. I would like to go back on Zora's line, can you help? Thanks, Althea

Hello. My husband is part of the MT McGonigals. They are more directly connected to Idaho. This is what I know.
Tim McGonigal ( hubby)
b- 5-4-1966 in Helena, MT
son of:
Michael McGonigal m. Ellen Walsh in Helena in 1950.
b-3-20-1924 b-7-20-1927
in Idaho in Butte, MT
son of:
George Patrick McGonigal m. Mary Margaret Brown in ID 1923
b-1890 d-1959 b-1898 d-?
in Idaho in Idaho
son of:
Michael McGonigal m. Jane McMahan in ID in 1889
b-? d-1904 b-? d-1896
in Idaho

(This is all the info I have. I am trying to work through to find out more about Michael McGonigal. I am assuming he was in Idaho for mining. There is a story about he and his wife dying quite young and then leaving 3 young boys to be raised by cousins. I am wondering if Michael is one of the 6 McGonigal brothers that spread to Michigan and Canada, and even into Idaho? ) Please let me know if any of our info conicides. Thanks.

Sorry to be so long in answering, the line I am of McGonegal I am working on so far, is Zora's and don't have his father yet. need to look at 1850 census. More to do. Could be that one of Zora kids' had Michael, but need to find the common link.

I'm also searching McGonegal's from New York to Michigan to Nebraska.
My line starts with Henry> his son Ira ( b. 1805, N Y), >then to his son Guy N.( b. 10 Jun 1837, Bath, Steuben Co., NY)
Ira and his family. Plus his son Guy N. moved to Michigan sometime between 1850 and 1860.
Guy N. married in 1860 remaining in Michigan for the next 14 years, then moved to Indiana for only four years and the last move was to Juniata, Adams Co., Nebraska where he lived out the rest of his life.
If you have information on this line me contact me at

thanks
Hold fast

Hi, where in Michigan did Guy N live for 14 years? My McGonigals were in Jackson City, MI Of what I know of so far on this line there is also a Guy, born 1906 in Mi, this Guy is younger than yours, but can't help but wonder if all these,no matter the spelling, are related, more to do for sure!

Guy N McGonegal:
per family & census records lived in
1850 - Avoca, Steuben Co., New York
1860 - 2nd ward Jackson City, Jackson Co., Michigan
1870 - Spring Arbor, Jackson Co., Michigan here he is married to Sarah Dutton and listed with children one which is my Grandfather Willard William.
1880- Juniata, Adams Co., Nebraska.

As you can see, Guy lived in Jackson Co., Michigan. His other brothers and sister all born in New York were as I know; Mary abt 1827, Jerome abt 1829, John P Feb 8, 1832, Emeline abt 1840, Charles abt 1842 and Fanny abt 1844.

Hope this helps.

I don't believe that this is the same line. As the last name in my family tree has always been spelled as McGonegal. Census records that go back to 1830 Town of Fabis, Onondaga Co., New York, and then again 1840, Steuben Co., New York. and so on until now.
